Memorial Day
A Holiday That Honors the Memory of United States Soldiers who have Died Defending our Nation. The red poppies were inspired by the poem, “In Flanders Fields.”
It was a poem written in 1915 by a Canadin Doctor, describing the red poppies that grew around solders’ graves in Flanders. Three years later, a YWCA worker, Moina Michael, wore a red silk poppy pinned to her jacket, while at a war secretaries conference. Because of the inspiration she felt from the poem, she brought along another two dozen red silk poppies to pass out to others. in 1920, the National American Legion adopted the poppy as the national symbol of remembrance. And so... we invite you to create a little poppy with us this weekend. In the midst of our gatherings, let us remember.
